It’s that time of year again, talk of New Year’s Eve and parties has begun, the pressure to out-do last year’s celebrations is mounting and the baby sitter is on hold.  So where are you going?  What are you doing?

The fireworks can be seen for miles around however, so you don’t necessarily have to be in the hub of the action to enjoy them.

If you’d prefer to head indoors to see in the New Year, the options are endless.  From a meal at one of London’s finest restaurants to comedy clubs, pub crawls or clubbing. London is a lively and vibrant city, at least once in your life you should see in a brand new year in the capital.

Edinburgh

Perhaps the most famous New Year’s Eve Celebrations, certainly in the UK, are held in Edinburgh.  Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party is listed in the ‘top 100 things to do before you die’ book and also appeared as the only festival to be included in the Discovery Channels top 25 travel experiences.

With live bands and DJ’s, the city centre comes alive with the festivities culminating in world class fireworks at midnight.  Locals mix with visitors from all over the world to create an atmosphere like no other.

Travelling there by train couldn’t be easier and Edinburgh train station is a ten minute walk from Edinburgh Castle, the stunning backdrop to the celebrations. Brighton

Why not head for the coast and a night of opulence and decadence at the famous Grand Hotel?  The Empress Suite Black and White Ball is a night of sheer luxury.  Champagne reception, five course meal followed by after dinner dancing to a nine piece band.  Throw everything at your evening and book a room too, The Grand offer packages well worth looking into.

With Brighton only just over an hour from London by train, and the Grand Hotel a ten minute walk from Brighton Railway Station, it couldn’t be much easier to get to, making getting there by train seem like the easiest option.

Newquay

If you fancied celebrating New Year’s Eve slightly off the beaten track, perhaps you have children in the picture and want to turn the night into a little holiday, something slightly more wholesome, then heading west to Cornwall could tick all those boxes for you.

Newquay hosts a now traditional fancy dress parade through the streets, ending in Central Square ready for the countdown at midnight.  Fun for all the family, it’s a great way to embrace the New Year and entertain young children.

The fireworks stem from Newquay Harbour, a seven minute walk away so if Central Square is getting to busy you could wander down and watch from somewhere along the harbour wall.
